Description and History
History
Königsleiten’s transformation is a classic Alpine success story. Originally a remote, high-altitude alpine pasture used exclusively by local farmers for summer grazing of cattle, however, everything changed in the 1960s and 1970s with the boom in alpine tourism. Recognizing the snow-sure altitude and breathtaking scenery, visionaries developed the area into a purpose-built, yet traditional, Alpine holiday village.
Today, it has developed into the highest-altitude resort within the vast Zillertal Arena ski network, blending Salzburg's rich heritage with first-class tourist infrastructure.
Description
Königsleiten is located at an impressive 1,600 meters above sea level, right on the scenic border between Salzburger Land and Tyrol. Unlike sprawling market towns, it has retained its authentic charm with strict building regulations that favor wooden chalets and romantic Alpine architecture.
It is a true "ski-in, ski-out" village, meaning you can step right outside the door of your holiday home or apartment, clip on your bindings and head straight to the lifts.
For families, large groups or couples looking for an unforgettable Alpine getaway, the village offers an excellent range of accommodation – from modern, fully equipped self-catering apartments with private saunas to spacious, rustic villas and chalets with open fireplaces and large balconies overlooking the Hohe Tauern peaks.
